Centerpoint to build solar power plant in central Ireland
- September 13, 2021
Centerpoint Energy is to build a solar power system in central Dublin to supply a small but growing number of homes and businesses in the region.
The new plant, which will be built at a site in the Irish town of Londonderry, will use an existing solar farm and will be powered by fuel cells.
The Irish Times reported the company has a solar array in the area and said the project will be able to provide enough power to power 100 homes.
The solar plant will also be able help with the city’s grid.
It will also have an integrated solar farm, a wind turbine and an inverter, according to the report.
The company has also announced a plan to build and operate an additional 500MW of solar capacity in the country.
The move is likely to boost its stock price and its reputation for innovation.
In March, it secured the backing of the European Union and the European Investment Bank to build three solar farms in the Republic of Ireland, the Financial Times reported.
